What a day for dreaming in cool shafts of light for pulling in close and blowing out the tornado in my chest for watching winds swirl through a crisp September windowpane I trace with my fingers as you sleep. What a day for warm hands and cold toes for the smooth brown of your cheek a day for closing the windows against all the unnamed elements for unwinding the clockwork of heavy shoulders and burrowing beneath the quilts, two little creatures in a nest. What a day to be so whole-heartedly in love with you so lost in the warmth of your eyes the smell of you permeating your sweater like I could taste your skin on my tongue. A day to be wrapped up in this thing we so suddenly have, all the more beautiful because it’s so fragile. I too have sleepless nights of the mind. I tasted winter in the breeze this morning and my books pile high on my dresser, wishing I could untie the string of the world from my finger and let it slip.

What a day for dreaming
in cool shafts of light

for pulling in close
and blowing out the tornado
in my chest

for watching winds swirl
through a crisp September windowpane
I trace with my fingers
as you sleep.

What a day
for warm hands
and cold toes

for the smooth brown
of your cheek

a day for closing the windows
against all the unnamed elements

for unwinding the clockwork of
heavy shoulders
and burrowing beneath the quilts,
two little creatures in a nest.

What a day to be so
whole-heartedly
in love with you

so lost in the warmth
of your eyes

the smell of you permeating your sweater
like I could taste your skin on my tongue.

A day to be wrapped up in this thing we so
suddenly have, all the more beautiful
because it’s so fragile.

and my books pile high on my dresser,

wishing I could untie
the string of the world
from my finger
and let it slip.

Quote
"Our work of love should be to reclaim masculinity and not allow it to be held hostage to patriarchal domination. There is a creative, life-sustaining, life-enhancing place for the masculine in a non-dominator culture. And those of us committed to ending patriarchy can touch the hearts of real men where they live, not by demanding that they give up manhood or maleness, but by asking that they allow its meaning to be transformed, that they become disloyal to patriarchal masculinity in order to find a place for the masculine that does not make it synonymous with domination or the will to do violence."
